Halifax Bank To Shut Hereford Branch

Halifax has announced that its branch on Commercial Street in Hereford will shut permanently later this year, bringing an end to the bank’s physical presence in the city centre.

The company has confirmed that the Hereford branch will operate as normal until Wednesday 21 October 2026, when it will close for good.

Halifax says the decision forms part of a wider review into how customers are choosing to manage their money.

In a statement, the bank said: “We regularly review how our customers choose to bank with us. And, with most now using our app, online services or phone banking, we're closing our Hereford branch.”

The move reflects a national shift across the banking industry, with more people turning to digital services instead of visiting a branch in person.

Halifax says the majority of its customers now prefer to use online banking, mobile apps or telephone support for day‑to‑day transactions.

Those who currently rely on the Commercial Street branch will be contacted directly with information about alternative ways to access services.

That includes guidance on using online and mobile banking, as well as details of the nearest remaining Halifax branches.

The announcement is expected to raise concerns among residents who still depend on face‑to‑face banking, particularly older customers and those who find digital services difficult to use.

Halifax says that the cash machine at the branch will be removed but a free-to-use ATM machine is available at Lloyds Bank in High Town.

For now, the Hereford branch remains open and will continue to offer its usual services until the closure date on the 21st of October.
