Retail giant Tesco is planning to open a new Express convenience store in Credenhill.

The retailer has submitted a planning application to Herefordshire Council for new signage at the current One Stop premises on Station Road, west of Hereford. One Stop has been a subsidiary of Tesco since 2003, operating with a separate product range and distribution system.

The application outlines plans for five non-illuminated fascia panels, an illuminated projecting sign, and five window vinyls. Accompanying floor plans indicate that the internal layout and footprint of the existing shop will remain unchanged, while neighbouring businesses, including a fish and chip shop, appear unaffected by the proposal.

Because no change of property use class is being proposed, a full planning application is not required for the transition.

The proposal comes as Credenhill faces local housing expansion, with regional targets requiring the town to accommodate 285 new homes. A major proposal for a new estate opposite the Stirling Lines military base forms a key part of those numbers, though the development faces opposition locally and from the Ministry of Defence.
