A temporary Post Office counter has opened in Leominster following a four-week closure of the town’s postal services.

The new counter, located at the Leominster Information Centre at 11 Corn Square, officially began operating on September 11. The service is available from 9:30am to 4:00pm on weekdays, and from 9:30am to 1:00pm on Saturdays.

The town’s previous counter, located inside the Morrisons Daily on South Street, closed on August 15. The closure went ahead despite a thousand-strong public petition and intervention from local representatives.

Post Office Ltd confirmed the temporary branch is being operated by postmaster Sunil Gora, who also manages Leominster’s Banking Hub. The counter provides standard postal and everyday banking facilities while discussions continue regarding a permanent solution for the town.

Leominster Town Mayor Gill Murdoch welcomed the arrangement, stating the town council strongly supports having a central Post Office and worked alongside North Herefordshire MP Ellie Chowns to establish the temporary site.

Dr Chowns expressed gratitude to both the town council and Post Office Ltd for restoring essential services, noting how vital banking, pension, and postal access is for local residents, particularly older community members and those with limited transport options.

Work remains ongoing between local representatives and Post Office Ltd to identify and secure a permanent venue for the branch.
